Ah, it's a Voodoo!  :D  I've often been tempted to buy one (most likely the SG), but the red skull inlay always makes me a bit hesitant....

As Alex mentioned, that finish seems very susceptible to damage, I've seen lots of them with huge patches of bare wood.  Even if it was mint it would probably end up looking pretty tatty eventually.  Natural relic!

I like the inlay, it makes the series unmistakeable. I probably just got used to it though. I guess it can be a deal-breaker for some though.
One thing I also like is the absence of inlays. Something very clean about that, and I don't miss them at all when playing.

Mine is also very heavy, and pieced together from at least three parts. Despite this, some Voodoos have a bit of an "ugly wood grain" on the top, at least IMO. You'd think that if Gibson is already assembling the bodies from several planks that they could pick a pretty piece for the top!

Gibson are pretty lazy about trying to match the grain on multi-piece bodies, it's true.

But when you see some '70s Fenders (and early-'80s Japanese guitars, like Arias) with multi-piece ash bodies, they made no attempt at all to match the grain and disguise the join lines.  It's as if no-one had even thought of such a thing!

Whatever you do, keep the red/black pickup scheme, they look great on this guitar.

Glad to see that you got some money back toward the re-fret.

Looks fine to me - nicely played in.  Slight rust on the frets should be able to be sorted with a fret dress/polish.

Congrats! I'm not a Gibson-man, but I dig the shape of a V and Explorer.

I wouldn't have minded if he had been even slightly honest about the guitar,  but he wasn't. He stated to me that the guitar is otherwise unmarked. I didn't ask for money for a refret because it clearly doesn't need one, he gave me a small refund to go towards a fret dress. I could probably sort out the rust myself but the 15 fret is pitted where the e and b strings are so I might as well let someone else take care of the rust.

I had a (slightly) similar situation.... where I was the seller!

A couple of months ago I got a Korean SG copy in part exchange for another guitar and just put it straight on eBay (without looking at it very carefully, but it seemed to be in working order).  When I sold it and sent it to the buyer, one of the frets had dropped out in transit and it turned out some of the others might also be a bit loose!  He was quoted about £50 to sort out the loose fret(s) but since the guitar itself wasn't worth much more than that I just got him to send it back and returned all his money.

No idea what to do with the guitar now....!

I'm not trying to defend bad eBay sellers, but it was a lesson to me that you can never be too careful!  I normally describe things in minute detail, especially if they're 99% mint and only have one or two tiny scratches.  But this was a rare case where, because I didn't think the guitar was worth anything anyway, I simply didn't look at it closely enough.  If I'd realised there was a problem I could've sold it as a "project/repair" item and probably have got almost as much for it, without the hassle.
