Schecters are a good buy for the money. Some people like Dean as well...

I would go with a Carvin though.... same price range, but they are quite a bit better in quality though..

Schecters are a good by fro the money in the States. Here they're somewhat overpriced due to Soundcontrol's exlcusive distribution deal.

I got mine on eBay US :lol: In france they are outrageously overpriced.
Got mine for half the french price.

Looks pretty nice, shame its a signature model but apart from the truss rod cover you can't really tell that, oh - that and the ant inlay!

But more than twice the length of time they where popular.

Ermm regarding the whole metal guitar thing, what actually is a metal guitar so to speak.

So many of them seem to be so close to 40 year old gibson designs (ESP) or slab bodied strat style guitars. Yeah I understand that the necks are often slimmer and have a flatter radius (for the shredders out there). Of course there are the more extreme shapes but for the most part why not go for a decent SG / Explorer or whatever with a new paint job & decent pickups ?

cheers for the responses guys... i saw that terry corso... been talking with the seller, (havent got any money to buy it right away anyway)... and he has another Schecter fitted with BKPs!!! loves it as well...

and good question Rob... i dunno really... basically... anything MORE metal than my Gibson... so needs H/B's... and preferably a FAIRLY fast neck... (its not essential to have like a wizard-neck or anything)...

but yer im not really sure other than that... SG/Explorer wise... i dont like SGs... in the slightest.... never tried an Explorer of any kind... got any recommendations?

Theres many brands which havn't been mentioned.

Find the neck, body wood then body style. Then you can look at pickups colours & stuff.

Then theres the like of vintage and wilkinson who do produce reasionable stuff. Plus a hoarde of japanese makers which are mentioned in many other threads.

Some (mostly) unmentioned brands are

peavey
ibanez (consider the artist range)
hamer (I like their double cuts, but the standard is explorer styled)
gibson (they did some super strat styles in the 80s)
aria (nice neck heels on some models)
Charvels (some good deals out there)
Gordon Smith
Fernandes
Godin
Yamaha
warmoth (put it together yourself)
Lag
Fender
