i think the libertines and babyshambles are utter rubbish whether you've heard it done before or not.  how such utterly mediocre, apparently talent free drivel becomes so revered i'll never know.  they're even worse than oasis, and that's saying something. "which old song are we copying this week our kid?"  "feck off and die you obnoxious turd"

from my bile you might get that i really despise these bands.  you'd be right, they're even more insidious than cr@p like westlife, because these bands actually seem to believe that they are great artists, the Beatles or Stones of our day.  listen lads, recycling old bands' songs doesn't make you as good as them.  okay?
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

^agreed...

but i think the stones, in general, share the same undeserved criticism... a couple of their songs are good... the rest sound the same and boring to me...

i dont get why everyone hails them as amazing... when theyre really just.... not.

thats my personal view anyway.

Not that I'm calling them f*t.  Wouldn't want to get into trouble like that Richard Bacon.

What happened, did thay eat him ?

Shudders at the thought of a bacon (& magic numbers) sandwich

Sam,

The stones had a few good years, and a lot more mediocre ones, the same as Zep, Sabbath and all. To me Hendrix wasn't around long enough to suffer from that problem, but even then I liked the direction he was starting to head in :(

Also for the want of herasy, was it me or was the White Album the last good Beatles album (whith Revolver being the best one).

Rob...

Hey Sam did ya ever watch those DVDs ?

Tom,

I agree with you where is the swagger, the attitude. I remember when the 1st Kasabian album came out, when the bass line came thudding in you knew knew something was going to happen (wether you liked the album or not is a totally different matter).

Dont worry, I quite like Kasabian. They sound different to most other bands I've heard (especially on the first album).

Agree with Sam about The Beatles, I just dont get it, although I know people will say they created rock music or whatever, I just dislike their songs (and paul mccartneys violin bass looks so gay ;))

And before anyone says it, I did say I wasnt gonna post for a bit, but recently since I stopped posting here I played a lot of guitar instead and got a bit sick of it for the time being, keep playing the same stuff  I decided I'm only gonna post where I'm actually being helpful or contributing to the conversation instead of just stuff like "I agree with suchandsuch" or "nice guitar, congrats" etc..

edited bit - we're REALLY good at steering threads completely off-topic

Song;
1. a short metrical composition intended or adapted for singing, esp. one in rhymed stanzas; a lyric; a ballad.
2. a musical piece adapted for singing or simulating a piece to be sung: Mendelssohn's “Songs without Words.”
3. poetical composition; poetry.
4. the art or act of singing; vocal music.
5. something that is sung.

Could'nt find, AAAGGGHHHH, or GGGRRRRR, in the Dictionary

Iffin grrrrr, agghhhhh, is a NEW phenomenum, then fair play, but it AINT singing (not IMO).

My, initial, point was/is. If there are so many sales of Rock/Metal type guitars/pickups etc., and so many fans of this genre, then where the feck is the music?

Which is more on topic of the thread to start.

Lemmy is about as growly as I wanna get. I know there are some amazing musicians in the GROWL metal bands, but GROWLING is NOT a talent! Feck if it was I would be a bloody star!

I have been overseas for quite a while, but I did not hear of really ANY of the 'new' bands mentioned here whilst away. This in itself is sad to me. Again, where is the Sabbath, Priest, Maiden of this new Millenium? Especially with all the 'metal' pickup sales (ala thread post).

there's a very obvious reason why there are so many sales of all things metal, and not many good metal bands in the uk...

and thats because more and more people are becoming more and more like bedroom guitarists... buying all their idols' gear and sitting there practising all day becoming amazing... but not actually DOING anything with that skill apart from maybe the odd video on youtube...

and this applies particularly to metal... because thats where the most shreddy shiz goes on... which is what these people wanna be able to do.

and you KNOW this why???????????

It really dos'nt matter.
My era is looooooooooooooooooooooooooong gone and sadly probably NEVER to return.

Thankgoodness for Amazon.co.uk, iTunes etc. where you can check clips before spending the queens head on some of the absolute cr@p proporting to be rock/metal these days.

lol ok maybe i dont KNOW it... the way i phrased it wasn't great...

but i SUSPECT this... (as at least one of the main factors... maybe not the whole cause) because i know a lot of people like this...

for example.. our drummers brother... great shredder... practises guitar about 5 hours a day... yet hes not producing any good material songs-wise at all....

anyway...

who knows what will happen in the future.

Maybe instead of ASBO's or whatever this now SOFT country calls em, they should give the 'poor offenders' a B.C.Rich Warlock then, maybe that would (by your argument) confine the feckers to indoors naturally.

Wait till your robbed, beaten up or both :(

I am also confused as apparently guitar sales are at an all time high but wheres the music (never mind the metal genre) ?

Theres also so little live music compared with when I was younger, 90% of the time it's some git who shouldn't even be allowed to bust, with his laptop playing midi files in the background.

Still tehres a busker in Canary Whard underground station on Friday mornings that knocks out a few hendrix tracks, and he seems to earn quite a few quid (gives a good start to the day too).

Rob...

Gotta agree with dakine, theres not much in the current british metal scene :(

Guys like sikth are on the cutting edge, thats for sure, but theres not enough.

And SO much indie! I agree wtih every sentiment here about its unoriginality and musical ineptitude.

Continental Europe, Canada and the US is where its at. And where I'm not at :(

It's not metal I'm worrird about (though I would welcome a lot more), I just want some feckin variation, from boy/girl bands, inde that isn't even inde and that so called urban cr@p

In the 70s disco may have been bad but atleast it gave us some decent bass lines

Seemingly Japan too

It seems like it's illegal to have a guitar in UK TV unless it's a PRS or a Tele.
