Man that dean headstock on a Vee owns the gibson one hands down doesnt it.

Can't agree with that, but it is a lovely guitar!

ditto, i prefer the gibson one.

I do rather like the Dean headstock, but it looks much better on their Cadillac-

Seriously, that's a sexual guitar.  I need to get one at some point. :D

Gibson actually came up with that headstck shape and it was originally meant to go on flying vee's - i think there may have actually been a few early ones that were built with it.

There was also a very similar shape that gibson intended on using on the Moderne but that never made it past being a prototype anyway and they went for an even worse design for the headstock when the reissued it in the 80's

Both of these where designed around 1958!! - imagine what that headstock looked like to people then

the idea is that it's half explorer, and half les paul.
Explorers were never difficult to play; i don't think the point would cause any problems

i like the dean headstock on certain models. on that korina V, it just looks wrong. perfect in my opinon on their flame topped and spalted maple Vs.

i guess this thread just goes to show massive differences in taste ;)

regarding the cadillac, i'm also not sure about the dean headstock on that - but what other shape can you imagine that would look right? not an explorer or a les paul headstock anyway...

I think there is an article in next months guitarist magazine about one of the early gibson flying vees with a vee shaped headstock - at least there was a picture in this months that said they were doing a fuller article about it

anyway - it looks pretty much like the dean korina V

I like the Dean headstock on the Cadillac - in fact I think the Caddy is one of the coolest Les Paul variants on the market.  Flash but quite conservative at the same time.

It doesn't work on the V though - on the Gibson V the headstock and body "fly" in the same direction, but the Dean V looks like two guitars going in opposite directions have crashed into each other.

yeah, in this month's guitarist magazine, there's an article about some US vintage guitar fair (dallas?) and there's a 58 (something like that) explorer with the "dean" headstock. I think it was going for $1,000,000.

I think the "dean" headstock suits explorers and ML shapes. Doesn't suit the v at all, which is strange, as you'd think it would...

I think it looks fine, but its a bit too big, then again if it was too small it would look odd, but then, i really dislike the gibson one, its far too smooth. V headstocks are a hard one.
Anybody comment on whether it suits the splittail?

the split tail is an abomination right from the start - when i first saw it i quite liked it but then realised they only showed it from extreme angles - from head on it just looks plain wrong!!!
