yeah but you are a self confessed crazy!! :P

I do like the full size ones but the body blank i am using would be a bit small for that.  wheras the explorer pro shape fitted almost perfectly - well except for having to stick an extra bit on the fin anyway.

i have finish sanded the body and will get some lacquer on that next week.  I think i am gonna finish this one myself rather than get nath to spray it because it will allow me to experiment a bit more with what i want.  It will be rustins plastic coating applied with a brush which i havnt done in a while but i used to be able to get a very nice finish in 3 days with this method.  Takes a lot more work to get good results than spraying does though - lots of sanding off brush marks between coats!

I have also trimmed all the frets back and bevelled the ends - need to round them off to make them super smooth  and give then a little level and re-polish

no pics yet because not much to show -

the woods all came from various places, mainly just stuff i had lying around.

the korina body was from David Dyke at http://www.luthierssupplies.co.uk , or was it from simo who runs the ukgb forum - i cant remember with this peice.

I think the rosewood neck blank was from http://www.lmii.com/ but i cant really remember.

The spalted maple top came from a canadian ebay seller
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/fine_woods

Usually my guitars heavily feature wood from Larry Davis at http://www.galleryhardwoods.com but he has only contributed the maple filler strip on this neck

thanks man, i cn't tell ye how much thats helped me!!

I'd very highly recommend David Dyke for supplies- for me it's a 42mile drive there (approx an hour), and it's worth it- the people there are helpful and friendly too, nice large selection also. They supply timber to people like Doug from Blackmachine and Jon from Feline Guitars too, so they're not a bunch of cowboys looking to make a quick buck :)

It's not too crazy an idea to get a list of stuff you'd like, and call them to check they've got the timber in stock (most likely they will have), and actually drive from IoW to there, it would be worth it :)

I havnt had the chance to visit David yet but he is the sort of wood dealer that understands what we are after - i have no qualms about ordering blind from him and trusting him to supply me with the best he can offer.  it took me a while to get around to ordering from david but he is definately on my main supplier list from now on!

Larry Davis in the US is pretty much on a par with David's level but seems to have a much bigger selection of exotics  and the ability to acrylise wood, but postage and customs limit how much of his stuff i can have

it did interest me for a short while but then she said she said she wanted it free.

Thx for the pic, i have seen walnut ones that look cool but really wasnt sure about the solid brown finish.  That doesnt look too bad but i reckon it could be dessertified with a cream scratchplate - might actually look like it was made from chocolate then!!!

The black scratchplate definitely needs to go, cream would look great.  That's not my SG-X in the pic, but I have a black one and a green one, and I replaced both scratchplates.
