headstock is cut to shape and i have started to bevel the bottom edge slightly - i think it will suit the style of guitar this has evolved into:

And i have carved the shape of the neck 98% of the way there:

If somebody asks me to copy a neck shape i will but most of the time i just free-hand and eye ball it all. Next i have a break then to hold the neck to get a feel for it so i can make any tweaks if they are needed - then i will finalise the shape and sort out the transitions at either end.

I think the 'having a break' step is the most important part because i need to distance my self from it so i can come back objectively and see what needs doing to the neck to perfect it!

great headstock, and i really like the flamed maple truss rod cover/skunk stripe (that is what it is, right? :oops: ) too.

The headstock looks really good, the bevelled edge adds a nice touch :) I think if the end was rounded a bit more it might look better but thats just my opinion, I might see what it looks like via photoshop later, unless you're happy with the shape.

go for it tom, always open to options!!

The headstock seems to be going down well which is always nice!!.

I might play with the bevels a bit more but it probably wont change that much now

the skunk stripe is maple. . . with a difference. This neck will be unfinished, maybe just a bit of oil and wax and a lot of polishing. Thats great for the rosewood but not so good for the maple which would quickly turn dark and grey.

i finished a fretless bass a few months ago with an acrylised birdseye maple fretboard. the maple is actually fully impregnated all the way through with acrylic. the point being that it will be hard enough to resist the wear of the bass strings and it also doesnt need a finish!!

I have some left and its perfect for this application because it wont go dark and grey like normal maple. I said it was birdeye maple but it looks more like flame because we are looking at the birdseyes from the side view - just because it fit nicely that way

nah, didnt get chance - had a very heavy weekend planned and my girlfriend was moaning that her new glasses were giving her headaches... still not happy about it!!

Kinda reminds me of the Washburn spalted maple X50

Except miles better :D

not to worried - i do try to be a bit individual and different but originality is a damn hard thing to achieve in guitar design without making something people wont buy!

Basses however, whole different story!!

yeah your headstock and neck in general is way better, there's too many guitars out there to be completely original.
