Genres are arbatary
Too many genres defined by tiny variances and miniscule parameters, After all a music genre dosn't change just because of lyrical content (for example)
Is a christian band playing in the Black Metal style should they be called White Metal ?
Would Death Metal in a christian context become Ressurection Metal ?
To me the above is probably as pointless to you as the whole sub, sub genre business is to me.
Surely it's enough to say early Metallica with Black Flag type vocals, to sescribe something. Or early period Yes meets whatever !
Heavy metal when I was younger is now classic rock (I still don't know what the cut off point is)
Strangely I am facinated by peoples need to 'out obscure' those around them.
Too much time spent on defanitions and too little playing or listening to music (for my taste)
I concur with Davy it's all metal
I can put up with some sub genre labels, mainly to avoid cookie monster vocals, or Mr Malnsteen but thats about it
But in all honestly theres music I like and music I don't like and thats about it for me.
