well, that's why it's in these babies 'xx'. cos i too think that all this naming of sub genres is dumb. it's #$%!& heavy metal or it's not

Ok I give up what in the name of god is "Battle Metal" when it's at home or else where.

Did it evolve from "Skirmish Metal" (which in itself may have derived from "a bit of pushing in the playground metal" ?)

Will it become "Limited Nuclear Strike Metal"

WTF is all this label business, why not just say fecking loud guitar music

It's not as if any of us work for the NME

Does that mean that all other sub genres in different styles are obsolete to you?

Jazz is just Jazz now? Blues is just Blues? Stravinsky is the same as Bach?

To me that seems stupid, all a sub genre is, is a way for people to easily describe how a band will sound.

Personaly i find people getting enraged about sub genres amusing, so please keep going...

the problem is, with all this labeling of genres, that already have a name. as much as battle metal aint over the top, it's still heavy metal.

now what pisses me off is all that 'death/black melodically progresive thrash metal' if you know what i mean.

beides.. there's just two genres of music. one that sucks and one that is good.

Genres are arbatary

Too many genres defined by tiny variances and miniscule parameters, After all a music genre dosn't change just because of lyrical content (for example)

Is a christian band playing in the Black Metal style should they be called White Metal ?
Would Death Metal in a christian context become Ressurection Metal ?

To me the above is probably as pointless to you as the whole sub, sub genre business is to me.

Surely it's enough to say early Metallica with Black Flag type vocals, to sescribe something. Or early period Yes meets whatever !

Heavy metal when I was younger is now classic rock (I still don't know what the cut off point is)

Strangely I am facinated by peoples need to 'out obscure' those around them.

Too much time spent on defanitions and too little playing or listening to music (for my taste)

I concur with Davy it's all metal

I can put up with some sub genre labels, mainly to avoid cookie monster vocals, or Mr Malnsteen but thats about it

But in all honestly theres music I like and music I don't like and thats about it for me.
Goodbye London !
