I like the idea of an R8 or R7.......Gibson Historics are superb guitars and you can get the R8 and R7 for within that budget.  You're not going to lose any money on them either.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot!

i think i answered this on UG, lol. I guess it depends how much she wants to spend on the amp. But if the amp is £1000 or under, I know when i was getting quotes for my legra, if you were willing to stick to a basic bolt-on design, you could get one under £1000 (including BKP's). that'd be my choice.

OK, if I was actually spending this £2K myself, I'd get an Orange Rocker 30, an Orange 1 x 12" and a Fender Vintage Hot Rod '52...

...TELE.

(That's this week, who knows where GAS will take me next week)
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

If I had £2k id buy a PRS Singlecut vintage mahogany. I love that wood grain. £1499 and then get a TT + 112 cab £480 < £2k

However, if i'd only been playing 1-2yrs I would really think about it before spending that kind of money. How much do they value this stuff as apposed to say a half decent guitar + amp and something else they need non guitar related. For example, a PRS SE or LP EPI + BKP (£350 + £170) and a practice amp or even a TT + 112, total <£1000 and 1000+ for something else.

What's with all the Tele hate on this thread all of a sudden?  :(

Because theyre not Metal enough I assume

(Seem to remember a phrase involving the words arse & elbow)

It's a huge amount of money to me (for guitar kit), does she have any actual preference

herself above what the guitar looks like, with 2K the world is pretty much your oyster

Some sort of LP or SG Jr from the sort of music listed would be a fairly safe option one

would think. Even a Fender Jaguar or Jazzmaster would fit that vibe.

Heading for guitars that have a little more in the way of eye candy, theres the Gibson

Goddess range (their LPs are nice). Theres also Eggles (theres a lovely Iommi model on ebay

ATM) as well as PRS

Failing that for spikey / punkish sounds Firebirds & Rickenbackers (the 600 series) for

example can manage that sort of thing in style, and within budget too.

Theres so many options it's almost pointless without a hint ;)

That's what everyone says, and it's completely not true. I hate both Strats, Teles, and Methullllll guitars. No offense to those who like them of course, if it works for you, great.

I hate teles.

Not because they're not metal.

I just hate the twangy sound - Like nails on a chalkboard.

With 2k to spend on a guitar/amp combo, I would say a 60's neck Gibson LP std or classic - if the thinner neck is required.

The weight of this guitar could be an issue but Gibson do their new standards with 'weight reduction cavities'.

If you shop around you'll get a great guitar for a decent price, around 1200-1400k, and use the rest for an amp.

I would highly recommend that you don't buy a Gibson without playing it first. There are many variations in the quality/tone of identical models.

If Gibson LP's aren't what's required then have a look at a Patrick Eggle Berliner. Great guitars and every one that I have played has been of very high build quality.

No offence to any alpha males out there, but honestly, the only thing that goes through my mind when I see a tele is "Ghey!" (I cunningly misspelled that...)

I can't explain why, it's the shape, the stupid angled pickup, something, everything, I don't know, but they're just - in my mind - completely homeownersexual.

I'm not saying you are of that ilk if you play one, I'm just saying that every time I see one (being played by big hairy ugly people, or spotty teenagers alike), it looks like an uphill gardener, and it makes its player look like an uphill gardener.

There ya go, I said it! That's why I don't like Teles  (Sorry phil!) :)
