tele's are cool in a really understated way... not for people who want to show off as much as for people who need a guitar that works....and will keep on working night after night!!!!

I wouldn't mind a black tele with a dark rosewood board and black headstock like Billy Gibbons but I`ll stick to strats for now!!

IMO, tele's always sound thin. And I know they are suposed to, it's just not my thing. And yes, I am aware that Jimmy Page used to play a tele, and I didn't like his sound back then either.
Unless they have humbuckers or single-size humbuckers of course. But I still don't like the way they feel or look, so even if I found a tele I liked the sound of, I'd probably not like to play it. Richie Kotzen shreds like a madman on his teles and his tone is decent (though a tad sterile) and it works for him, so I'm not saying all teles should be detroyed and burnt or anything like that. I just don't wanna be stereotyped because of my tonal tastes. No, the reason I don't like them isn't that "it's not metal" nor because "it's not an über shredder 27-fret scallopped fretboard floyd-equipped 7-string" or anything like that.
Aaaaaaanyway, that was just to explain what the tele-hate is all about, at least for me.

Guitars I like? I like 'em chunky and with humbuckers, preforably with a carved top. I'm also a big fan of classical Spanish guitars, aswell as 12-string accoustics.

I always thought teles (headstocks in particular), looked pathetic, but I've come round.
Mine cost £40, took out the neck pup and I play slide on it. At the end of every gig I chuck it on the ground and walk off stage. I couldn't do that with a super strat, and certainly not with my tokai.
Ok, the tone certainly isn't for everyone, and if you don't like the playability, fair enough. But I'm with wez here, just because they don't have spiky headstocks, shiny flame tops and snake inlays, doesn't make them gay. Less so, if anything. I think PRSs are the gayest looking guitars.
anyway, homophobia aside, I'd get a Decent, cheap, LP, strat, tele and SG. then spend the 2K. Every guitarist prefers some type of guitar to all the others, and with 1 year experience, she is nowhere near ready to spend that huge amount of cash on something because she reckons it's pretty.
If she must, steer her towards feline and BKPs, so at least someone deserving gets the money.
personally, I'd hate her so much for undeservedly being able to spend so much money, I'd spend 1800 on the guitar and amp I wanted, and the rest on another two that look almost identical. she'd never tell the difference.

They're all just opinions, when all's said and done. I can't see anything remotely gay (not that there's anything wrong with being gay, etc, etc...) about two plain chunks of wood, two pickups and some basic hardware, but there you go.

Personally, I think if you want guitars with a slightly more, er, lavender look, Ed Roman's is the place to go. His "World's Best Guitars" section looks like an explosion in a quilted maple and pearloid factory.
