Just watched my very first Blu-ray!  :D

Have you got yourself a Blu-Ray player Philly?

I have indeed, multi-region too.  So suddenly I'm interested in DVD review sites all over again, trying to work out what I want to replace (and if it's available on Blu-ray yet!).

Has anybody else seen "The Human Centipede" ?
 It's quite an experience....

Yes, I saw it last year!  Half the time I was thinking "why would anyone make this and why am I watching it?", but despite that I really enjoyed the performance of the mad doctor guy. 

We also had a Q&A with the director, who seemed quite a likeable chap.

Yeah Dieter Laser was very good in that, great screen presence!
Bahaha I can only imagine what questions the director got asked  :lol: I'm guessing it was a shower of WTF's.
I've heard that they are making a sequel with a 12 person centipede that will, and i quote, " make the first sequence seem like My Little Pony"

I must admit it took me a while to get a Blu-Ray - no looking back now, I do love high definition!

Are you into John Carpenter, Philly? I was watching The Thing on blu ray last night, and its one of the ones that really benefits from the blu ray transfer. I'd certainly recommend it.

Yes, I'm a fan of his earlier stuff (up to the mid-'80s, approximately) and I love The Thing!  It was the first "X" certificate film I ever saw in the cinema.  I've got the more recent DVD edition, which was an improvement on the first DVD release, but the Blu-ray is definitely on my list!  :D

Big +1 on this.  It's one of my girlfriend and my favourites so we got it last week and the transfer is indeed great.

Kudos to you for getting a girlfriend who will watch The Thing! Mine hates it! Didn't like Escape from New York or Big Trouble in Little China either. I really need to get her educated!

Have you got EFNY on Blu-ray too?  I've seen reviews saying it's a poor transfer, but it looks pretty decent in the comparison on DVD Beaver.

I'm afraid not, I read bad reviews and decided to avoid it. Although after looking at these pictures, i'm beginning to regret that decision. I might give it a shot come next pay day.

The Black Shield Of Falworth with Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.

It was my absolute favourite film when I was a little kid, and I've seen it loads of times but never in glorious Cinemascope.  Totally fantastic!  :)

I love that movie!! Haven't seen it in years.

Watched Bigger, Stronger, Faster last night, a low-budget documentary about anabolic steroids which was excellent. I would recommend to anyone interested in the issue (which is much more complex than I previously realised) or fans of the genre.

And Way of the Dragon (on Blu-Ray) this morning. It's got have been at least 15 years since I saw this. It was still fun to watch.

On the continuing Kurosawa front, the latest is Hakuchi (The Idiot) his version of Dostoevsky's novel of the same name. It's the first Kurosawa film I wouldn't recommend. It has some good scenes but is very much like a film of a stage-play. Apparently the film was originally 4.5 hours long, the studio recut it (without Kurosawa) to 2.5 hours, which I'm sure has left large holes.


On the TV front just finished Dexter - Series 2 which I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it.
