to be honest, it didn't start too well when it tried to tell you he was a geek, except he appeared to have the physique of a championship boxer, but with glasses and a bad haircut.

speaking of scandinavian films (tenuous link, even for me), lights in the dusk is very good. Bit sad (I'm way too soft-hearted), but very good.

I shall add Lights in the Dusk to my rental list.  Although thanks to the post strike I haven't actually received any discs for weeks....

I love Scandinavian films (hope Afghan isn't reading this   ).  They're always well made and often have a grey, bleak sort of look which I really like for some reason.  I always try to watch as many as possible at the London Film Festival.

yeah, the lights in the dusk one was kinda bleak, but at least slightly uplifting. I imagine that one i complained about got more uplifting later (by that i mean when i clicked on the wiki link I accidentally read the plot), but I'd given up long before then. and the main character was actually likeable in lights in the dusk.

speaking of the postal strike, my G+B magazine I missed turned up this morning. Though they sent a replacement as i emailed them a second time last week, dear knows where the original one got to.

do you still have to pay for the rentals?

They (Lovefilm) introduced a scheme of giving extra rentals for the ones you'd missed.  I said I'd missed 5, and they gave me 5 - but I had to use them before the end of the rental month.  That was 5 November in my case, and I received the two discs they'd sent me in early October on 3 and 4 November!  So I had about 24 hours to watch them, return them, and get two more.  Unfortunately I'm not Dr Who.

Needless to say, I complained, and they gave me a £5 refund.  But it really should've been the full £10.

There's something SERIOUSLY wrong with the post in my area.  When I send a disc to Lovefilm, they get it next day.  When they send a disc to me, it's currently taking a minimum of two weeks.   :(

Glad your G+B turned up!  :)

saw 2012 ... thought it was cr@p, too hollywood, way boring and predictable as hell.. it's the day after tomorrow pt2 .. and even that was not a particularly good movie.
effects were nice, but they do not save it

wow, that sucks, seems a bit ridiculous putting a time limit on it when the problem in the first place was delays in the post! I imagine (and this is only off the top of my head) that companies sending out lots of stuff are probably paying less for the postage in bulk, and it's somehow lower priority. I'm assuming something along those lines happened to my magazine.

our post here has seemed fine, by and large, except for that one magazine of mine. Not sure what's going on.

and thanks :)

I was going to go and see 2012 (nearly typed 2112 there!) or Harry Brown today, but couldn't face either.

Saw the new Coen brothers film, A Serious Man, instead.  It was OK, but not one of their best.

Over the last few days I have watched:

The International - not bad, Naomi Watts being in it was a bonus
Star Trek - pretty good, I'm not much of a sci-fi fan and liked this
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - pretty good

Tonight I shall be catching up on bones.
I think I hate being indecisive.

saw tokyo sonata last night, was very good, if a bit sad. Got a bit melodramatic and daft towards the end (though it sorted it out before the end), but other than that, was great. :)

Last night I watched Public Enemies. A little slow but decent enough. Much to my personal embarrassment I had convinced myself that John Dillinger was Australian. About half way through I realised that I had somehow got him confused with John Pilger.

That's because you're not a 13-year-old girl.

Don't you think that Robert Pattinson (sp?) looks like he could be Jedward's older, mildly retarded brother?

One of my colleagues went to see it recently. She was getting slightly annoyed with a (large) group of young girls who were giggling rather loudly every time one of the male actors took his top off.

I reckon Afghan should go along, strip off in front of loads of teenage girls and see if he gets the same giggly reaction.

They'd still be giggling when the police turned up.
