Watched "Amores Perros" (Life's a Bitch) the other day, and it was an unexpected GEM of a film. Brilliant story (or 3 stories), brilliantly told.
I watched 1408 (based on the Stephen King book) last night and was impressed with that too. Good solid Stephen King movie; probably the best adaptation of one of his for a few years!

Watched "Coraline" in 3D last week.  The animation is beautiful and a lot of the production design is great too but the story felt stretched too thin for me.  The book's really quite short and the film felt like it ran out of steam about half-way through for me.  Very pretty to look at though, and really worth a look in 3D.

Think I will be going to see Coraline 3D some time in the next week or so, it looks great. I've heard from quite a few people that the 3D stuff works really well in it so I'm excited to see it :)

The 3D is great, I'm a big convert to it. "Bolt",  the recent CG Disney movie was superb in 3D and from what I hear "Up" the new Pixar movie will also get a 3D release.  The future looks interesting.

I went to see Coraline earlier, it was good. I know what you mean about it losing steam, Andrew. I thought the ending seemed a bit rushed, or like the "game" needed to be stretched out a bit longer rather than it being as simple as it was..

I love how it looked though. I'm still not completely sold on 3D. Maybe its just my poor eyesight though but I always find some of the things that should be popping out of the screen just look blurry instead :( It made my eyes ache a bit as well towards the end, same thing happened for Monsters vs Aliens. When it works its really cool though.

Was the film all animated in 3D or what? It didnt look like normal 3d animation, didnt look smooth enough for that..

I think that's always going to happen to people who are susceptible.  The problem is that the screen is a fixed distance away (obviously) so your eyes have to actually focus on that fixed distance and yet the stereo image is telling your brain that things are at different depths which confuses it and that's why you get a bit boss-eyed.  I don't find it bothers me much but I spend so much time sat in front of cinema screens that I'm probably immune now.

It's almost all model animation, like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" with a bit of CG thrown in for environmental effects and the swirly bit toward the end.  There's a lot of compositing and rotoscoping done though, that's pretty obvious.

i just mean with the group of people i was with rather than everyone in the world ;)

we all seemed to disagree on the relationship with the old fella the little vampire girl lives with.  Most of them were happy enough to accept that he was the girls father and doing what he did just because of that.

To me it seemed like he was the latest in the long line of male companions.  he had obviously started to outlive his usefulness as he was getting a bit rubbish at getting blood.. and therefore she was basicly grooming the lad to be her next one.  she has been 12 for a very long time!!

Then my girlfriend says he is a paedophile in the book - but neither of us have actually read it yet so i am not sure

Haha, I always forget that normal people don't go to the cinema on their own!

You and your girlfriend are closer to the truth than the others - he's not her father, and he is a paedophile (I think that was wisely avoided in the film, as it would've just attracted controversy and overshadowed everything else).

I initially thought the same as you, that he was the latest in a long line, but (if I remember right) there isn't any suggestion in the book that this is the case - that situation just arose and became convenient.  There isn't much about Eli's history, but I guess being a child alone would be more difficult in the modern age of ID and form-filling than it might've been in the past.

The relationship with Oskar is completely different.  She's not grooming him, it is just what it seems - a love story.  But who knows what the future might hold?

(No doubt all will be made a lot simpler in the American remake.

Angels and Demons was very good.

And me and my girlfriend got Night at the museum for £3 at Asda.

I'm looking forward to the second one!
