I saw Somers Town the other night. Its ok, makes a change from Hollywood's shooters and explosions.

My partner loves sci fi although I'm not too much of a fan, I prefer grittier stuff.

^You/she should check out the american tv series Fringe. Its a sci-fi type thing made by JJ Abrams. Definitely worth a watch, it gets so addictive when you get into it.

Watched Before the Devil Knows You're Dead last night. Not a bad film, a little predictable but good. The best thing about it is undoubtably Marisa Tomei. Not wanting to sound like a perv but she spends quite a bit of the film with little clothing on - she's in great shape!

Gran Torino - Great film, good story line and great acting.
Agreed. It is pure genius.

Absolutely, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Has anyone seen Transformers yet? I heard it was rubbish.

I've heard it's exactly like the first one, so if you saw that draw your own conclusions!

I won't be bothering.

I went to see it a week or so ago. It sorta reaches its climax in the middle, and then theres about another hour of general boredom.

Typical Michael Bay film really, special effects were good though.

Watched Sexy Beast for the first time in ages on film4 last night. Whoever created Don Logan is an absolute genius, as is Ben Kingsley. His monologue in the airport had me laughing for a while. Very nasty character though!

I'm not sure how good Gran Tourino is but I can recommend Gran Torino.

Apologies for the pedantic response!

Went to see public enemies last night.

LOVED IT.

Great performances from Jonny Depp and Christian Bale.

Just watched Flightplan on BBC1.  Boring!

I also saw a pretty good Spanish comedy horror movie called Sexykiller today.  Probably not coming soon to your local multiplex.

and predictable! Panic Room is on in the next few days. Very similar feel. Also fairly boring and predictable.

Went to see Public Enemies last night. I love me some Michael Mann, but it feels like it could have been shortened a great deal & not lost anything. BTW, does anyone else think that Christian Bale is the new Sean Connery i.e. plays the same part in every movie. I love the guy, but he's exactly the same as The Dark Knight etc.

Watched 'Anvil: The Story of Anvil' yesterday, though it was absolutely brilliant :D

So much more to the film than the-real-spinal-tap image it has acquired. Very touching story about the strong bonds that develop between band members over a long period of time. As someone who was in the same band for 12 years, and didn't 'make it', I totally identified with 90% of the film. Though, I never played my guitar with a sex aid  :P

Also listened to the 2 commentary tracks which were also good. I would have though that the film took place over 6 months or a year but they filmed that band over 2.5 years. That's a lot of commitment to a project. The film's director was the band's drum roadie back in the 80s

Yes, I'm not convinced Jodie Foster, excellent actress though she is, is the right person to star in that type of film.  You need to sympathise with the central character, but (in those movies) she comes across as cold, brittle and neurotic and it's very hard to like her.

BTW, does anyone else think that Christian Bale is the new Sean Connery i.e. plays the same part in every movie. I love the guy, but he's exactly the same as The Dark Knight etc.

I've seen a lot of his films and I do think he can be a very good actor, but recently (The Dark Night, Terminator Salvation, Public Enemies) he's been turning in very similar performances where all he does is look extremely serious and growl/shout in a very deep voice (my brother calls it "barking"  ).  It would be nice to see him in something lighter, but he seems to have zero sense of humour so I'm not sure he could do it.

I don't know about the new Sean Connery, he lacks Connery's likeability.  Maybe he's more in danger of becoming the new "Shouty Al" Pacino.  :P

I keep going on about it, but when they showed the film at the London Film Festival last year, Anvil came on afterwards and played a mini set right there on the Odeon stage.  The atmosphere was amazing.  I think everyone in the audience that night, whatever their age or musical tastes, fell in love with the band.

I liked the lengthy silent moments, but i probably still would have enjoyed it if some stuff was cut and i hadnt arleady seen it.

There are a few like that, allways play the same part.
Lee Byung Hun (my fave badass)
Jim Carry
My girlfriend says Michael Cain is one.

There are some actors that are very versitile like Tom Hanks and Will Smith.

IMO
