sort of off topic, I'm just watching the Torchwood Children Of Earth...bloody hell it works as a drama!!!
When I saw this was on for five consecutive nights, I thought, oh bollocks I'll never have the patience for that - but in fact I found it absolutely gripping and didn't miss a second.
And I'm not normally a big fan of
Torchwood - usually it's too gimmicky, camp and full of "oooh, it's after 9 o'clock, watch us be rude and sexy" moments. This one seemed to be much more focused on the actual plot and characters.
Wez mentioned about the dodgy effects... I don't know if it was intentional, but in this series they seemed to have really cut back on the CGI and for me it worked much better. I know everyone (including people who never watched it) jokes about the wobbly sets and man-in-suit monsters on the old
Dr Who, but at least the actors are interacting with something they can actually
see. I think the new Doctor/Torchwood series rely far too much on good-but-not-great CGI, and you know they're just standing in front of a green screen shouting at a balloon on a stick.
