Just watched Gamer.

.............................words fail me.  :|

Ha ha ha. I take it, that you didn't really like it, Philly. I had only heard very bad things about it so I actually didn't find it that bad. I quite liked the idea of this "virtual reality" (was it called the place or something like that). Quite scary.

And what's up with all these American remakes of non American films? Is it just because Hollywood wants to make money or is it because Americans are to lazy to read subtitles? Might be both...

I liked gamer.

Because it was some good ideas mixed with 101 proof stupid, and that often entertains me.

I'm afraid the good ideas, such as they were, were completely buried under all the stupidity, annoying choppy editing and ludicrous hammy acting (and God, Kyra Sedgwick is ugly).

I was so appalled by the film I went and read some reviews.  It seemed to pick up some praise for the "game-like" quality of the action scenes.  That may be true - I'm not a gamer - but I found them so completely and utterly uninvolving I was very, very, tempted to fast-forward or just switch off altogether.

I suppose I should've known what to expect from the directors of Crank....

I really like the two Crank films. They're very similar, but it's just refreshing with an action b-film that doesn't want to more than an action b-film. I think the director nailed the andrenalin pumping feel well with some untraditional filming and Mike Patons sound track

Well, there you go, horses for courses.  I haven't seen the second Crank film yet, but I really hated the first one.

I watched an entirely different style of film last night, Giuseppe Tornatore's psychological thriller La Sconosciuta (aka The Unknown Woman).  Absolutely brilliant.

If you didn't like the first crank film you'll probably hate the second as well as nothing really has changed  :D

The Unknown Woman sounds like something to put on my "must watch"-list.

I watched Kick-Ass a week ago. Was a bit disapointed as I had hoped for more. Still watchable though.

just watched whip it last night.  It does suffer from the typical 'follow your dream not your parents/sports film' script cliches but was quite enjoyable.

Funnily enough, I don't mind most of his films.  Death Race was OK, I even like the first two Transporter movies (the third was utterly horrendous).  But Crank was just a bit too in-your-face stupid and manic, it really annoyed me.

Stupid action movies are very hard to predict - most just pass the time but some are genuinely enjoyable (Shoot 'Em Up, District 13) and some make me want to gouge my own eyes out (Hitman, Gamer).

i.e.  you know those blokes that seem to be wearing very low/baggy v neck tops to show off a bit of muscle cleavage.   well i think she has got a bit too toned, and now has the same thing going on

Yes, I see what you mean.  Juliette Lewis has achieved the look Simon Cowell strives for.

Talking of stupid action films, I watched Taken a while ago. And although completely stupid, i thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though Liam Neeson didn't have a beard in it.

The main problem I had with Taken is that, compared with District 13 (also directed by Pierre Morel), they had to resort to the good ole choppy-editing method to make it look like Neeson could actually fight.... but it's OK.

Is Liam Neeson only good when he has a beard?  That's a rule-of-thumb I apply to Ryan Reynolds movies.

Just watched The Infidel an identity crisis comedy written by  David Baddiel, there are a few good jokes but not a good film.
A generous heart, kind speech and a life of service & compassion are the things which renew humanity
