Just finished Lourdes a French language religious satire. It was absolutely amazing, just my type of film. The acting is great, very natural and subtle, no show boating. The script is sparse which emphasise the odd behaviour of the characters. It also features Léa Seydoux, who is very easy on the eye, http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3955394816/ch0157116

You, sir, are a man of taste!  :D   I saw Lourdes at the LFF last year and loved it to bits.

You called it a satire, and I saw it that way too - in the gentlest possible way - but I think the film actually leaves you completely free to form your own impression.  If you're sceptical about "miracles" it's satire, but I imagine a true believer could watch it and see it completely differently.  Or you could see it almost as a documentary!  And the ending manages to be happy and achingly sad at the same time.

Absolutely, like a good painting, the interpretation reflects the viewers opinions not the makers.

Legion

Because what christian mythology was missing was a fetish for automatic firearms.

Id say 'and total incoherence and nonsense', but its already got those in abundance.

What else did I see?

Oh yeah, the talented mr ripley. I dont know why poeple dont like matt damon. He cant act most people under the table.

Freudian slip?  :P

I like Matt Damon, although he's made a lot of films I don't like.  I love the the Bourne movies.  Never seen The Talented Mr Ripley, for some unknown reason, although I have read Patricia Highsmith's Ripley books.

I'm looking forward to Legion, I love horror/action movies with a religious angle.

Watched Shaun Of The Dead on Blu-ray last night, I'll probably follow up with Hot Fuzz this evening.

legion was utter pants.  The trailer was brilliant though... so the film must have a total of about 3 good minutes in it

looking forward to seeing scott pilgrim, just reread all the (comic) books again and from what i have seen it seems like edgar wright has got the style spot on.  hopefully it will translate well to film.. I mean, watchmen was so close to being spot on but it didnt make it a brilliant film

i hate when that happens with a trailer. dodgeball was the same, all the best jokes were in the trailer.

It's always a bad sign if a trailer is (a)very long or (b)seems to be giving away a lot of plot points, especially bits which are obviously from near the end of the film.

It pretty much guarantees you've just watched all the good bits and you may as well not bother with the film.

But I still want to see Legion.

Centurion which was rubbish and the really annoying thing is it would have been easy to massively improve it. The dialogue is some of the worst I've ever heard, much of it unintentional funny. The many fight scenes are realistically gore filled but are boring. The parallels draw with current campaigns are clumsy and the ending is tacked on.

Is that the Neil Marshall one?  He showed so much promise with his first two films, then got ludicrously self-indulgent (far too early in his career) on Doomsday, and it sounds like he's gone wrong again.  I hope he gets back on track.  :?

Of the two I much preferred Hot Fuzz.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Really hope you like Scott Pilgrim. I spent 18 months working on it and I think it's the best film I've been on in the decade or so I've been in visual effects. Edgar Wright has made something special with this and I genuinely think it's unlike anything else out there stylistically.

As usual with films based on graphic novels, I know zero about the source material but I'm looking forward to the film.

Just watching Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz again the last two evenings, I think Edgar Wright is a massive talent.  Most British comedy films feel like extended episodes of sitcoms, but Wright (and Pegg) seem to instinctively be able to operate on a real big-screen movie scale.  Those two films play with cliches and affectionately make fun of certain types of genre movies, but they also manage to be brilliant examples of those genres (a bit like Galaxy Quest, which is by far the best Star Trek movie ever made!).
