Infernal Affairs is great, much better than Scorsese's overrated remake The Departed.

I really liked The Departed

Law Abiding Citizen - Average (at best!) revenge thriller with poor acting and bizarre, illogical plot.

And I quite liked this!

Kick-Ass - I must be the last geek on Earth to see it  Loved it, really fun movie with some excellent action sequences that's more than just another comic book adaptation. Oddly, it dumps all originality in the final act, becoming very conventional and (for me) unsatisfying. If you haven't see it, don't let that put you off. This is a very cool film.

I really liked Kick-Ass too, but the weapon he chooses right at the end of the film pushes it a bit far towards 'sheer stupidity' for me. That's the only criticism I have of it.

American: The Bill Hicks Story - Top notch documentary and a very fitting monument to the life of one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time. The use of animated 'stills' is particularly well done.

I just watched Iron Man 2 on DVD.

I watched it in the cinema over the summer and picked it up yesterday on DVD when it came out as I'm a huge Marvel/Super Hero/Comic Book film fan.

It's not the greatest film ever made, but it's not a bad way to spend 2 hours. Plus, Scarlett Johanssen (sp?) in a catsuit isn't a bad view!

I loved Kick-Ass. Not as much as I liked Scott Pilgrim......  though.
:) That was my feeling too which isn't to say that I didn't enjoy Kick-Ass a lot.

On the Asian cinema front I re-watched "The Good, The Bad and The Weird" the other night and that's a fantastically fun film: hyper-kinetic throughout.

Just watched Let The Right One In. Really good! I can't imagine why they're doing/have done an American remake though, I can't see how they'll improve it?

They certainly haven't improved on it, but the remake is very, very good in it's own right.

I was gutted when I heard they were remaking it, but the sad fact is that a massive proportion of people will never watch a foreign-language film.  Maybe if they like the remake, a few brave souls will check out the original.

Watched RED last night, very entertaining. Not the world's most innovative, well plotted or subtle movie, but it accepts what it is and then ticks all the right boxes. The casting is excellent, which really helps.

hmm maybe I'll give it a watch some time then.

Currently watching The Haunting in Connecticut as it's on tv, it's cr@p so far! Just loads of cheap jump scares rather than anything proper. I have the original Japanese version of The Ring I might watch later, might as well watch something scary seeing as it's halloween weekend

We finally have a proper hd setup at home now, any blurays in particular I should get which are gonna show off how good the HD telly and 5.1 are? :P

I've got the Frightfest all-nighter tomorrow - horror movies from 6pm Saturday to 8am Sunday!

Superhero movies are good in HD - Spider-Man, X-Men etc.  And the new Blu-ray of Se7en has a really good transfer.   And maybe the Alien anthology, but I haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

I really like Se7en so might get that.

Just watched Ringu. It's ok but not anywhere near as scary as I thought it might be. Good atmosphere in parts though :)

Valhalla Rising - I said in a previous review that I would like any film with Vikings and that trend continues. Someone described it as like reading Norse Sagas while on acid and that pretty much sums it up. Not much happens, there's very little dialogue but the violence is well done and the camera work is great. There's an almost continuous montage of stunning sepia landscapes.

Black Death - Coincidently quite similar to Valhalla Rising, in fact a few of the sound effects are the same. Group of Knights recruit a monk to help them bring a Necromancer to the Bishop. Your reaction to previous sentence will tell if this film is worth watching. I enjoyed it but I did spend my teenage years playing D&D and still don't consider it wasted time

The Road - Ultra bleak film about a Father and son trying to survive a post-apocalyptic future. I love when films are grim but even I was thinking 'this better end well' and I normally hate happy ending. Excellent film, don't watch if your feeling down.

Up in the Air - Part satire about modern business ethics, part rom/com; works much better than it should. I highly recommend this film. Great script, fantastic performances, perfect blend of dark and light moments.

Watched this earlier on your recommendation. Very depressing, powerful film. Like you, I wanted it to end well, but there were telltale signs throughout that this wouldn't be the case.

I left The Road feeling very empty indeed (not hungry, emotionally). The only other film of recent times that left me feeling like that was Children of Men (although not quite a s empty!)
I think I hate being indecisive.
