Earlier on in the week I watched a 'Rock Musical' called Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Here's a blurb about the film from IMDB:

Quote
In the year 2056 - the not so distant future - an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GeneCo, a biotech company that offers organ transplants, for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by villainous Repo Men. In a world where surgery addicts are hooked on painkilling drugs and murder is sanctioned by law, a sheltered young girl searches for the cure to her own rare disease as well as information about her family's mysterious history. After being sucked into the haunting world of GeneCo, she is unable to turn back, as all of her questions will be answered at the wildly anticipated spectacular event: The Genetic Opera.

It's quite possibly 1 of the strangest films I've ever seen

The songs aren't great and neither is the acting, but I like the idea behind the story and how the film is put together.

I saw a special screening of Repo! The Genetic Opera a few years ago.

The director was there to introduce it and they were obviously hoping it would turn into a new Rocky Horror Show - they had women in nurses' uniforms, noisy people "planted" in the audience to try to get us to cheer and sing along.... I thought it was utter shite.   :|

Tyrannosaur.

Brilliant. Not cheerful. Wouldn't watch it in a triple header with Requiem For A Dream and Threads, or anything

Haven't watched any films for ages, but I managed three this week:

True Grit - Very, very well done, but like most recent Coen Brothers films I found it a bit "cold".  I still prefer the John Wayne version!

Limitless - I didn't think Bradley Cooper could carry a film on his own, but he does a pretty good job.  Not bad at all, although it seemed like they didn't really know how to end it.

Point Blank - This reminded me of Tell No One:  if it had been made in the USA it would've been a pretty bog-standard thriller, but a bit of French style makes it into something just a little better than that.

I agree for the most part!

Like I said, I liked the idea the film was based on, but that's about it. Non of the songs were catchy enough, which I think is always a problem with films like that.

Yeah, absolutely.  And there's nothing worse than being told "This is cool!  This is going to be a cult film!"

I think most of us sat there thinking "$%&# off and let us make up our own minds....!".  Cult films just happen, you can't really set out to deliberately make one.

Incidentally, there's a newer Jude Law film called Repo Men based on a novel which seems really rather similar to Repo! The Genetic Opera.  I think they may have "borrowed" a few ideas....

I watched 'gladiator' on blu-ray the other day and it was truly awesome and inspiring, I am a huge fan of Ridley Scott and think he has very artistic and creative films even when he does holywood blockbuster cheeze

Drive - Like it.  Had a minimalist 'Bullet' kind of feel to it.  Not much talking.  Violent.

The Adventures of Tin Tin - There was not much choice on the plane when we were coming back from holiday so I ended up watching this.  Actually really good!  I like a good kids film (like Iron Giant, Toy Story, Wall E etc) and this was excellent.

Yes, I'm also enjoying Homeland... though I do wonder how long they can run with the is-he-isn't-he storyline, more than one season?

^ yeah i like it too. it took me a while to decide if i liked it, because a lot of the stereotypes are pretty offensive (not to mention close to home  ), but yeah.

no idea, but it's been renewed for a second. :)
