Anyway, watched The Great and Powerful Oz last night. Was alright, could've been so much better if instead of a cameo Bruce Campbell actually played Oz because that character type is exactly what Campbell does best. Also watched the new Luther, brill as expected.
Machete, tonight  8)

In-laws just rang me, John :D

Smashing. Have fun with those. It'll be interesting which one you prefer (if any!).

Yea, it was a good movie but typical blockbuster.

yeah

Yeah, I've seen lots of those programmes.

In a way, they're worrying, because I certainly recognise elements of myself; but in another way, they're reassuring, because I'm nowhere near as bad as they are (really, I'm not....!)

I most definitely have a "collector" mentality - if I like a band I get all their albums, I never miss an issue of my guitar magazines, I have lots of books, Blu-rays and DVDs.... and yes I do keep stuff, I don't chuck it out if it still works.  BUT.... I don't actually "hoard" useless things (like piles of newspapers etc) for their own sake.

The problem is, you keep buying stuff and it accumulates without you really noticing.  Then it's difficult - and time-consuming - to grab the bull by the horns and get things back in order.  I know some people could just dive in and chuck everything in a skip over a weekend, without even thinking about it..... but that's not me, I'm afraid.  I want to put stuff on eBay, get something back on it if I can.... but that's very time-consuming in itself.  And so it goes on....

same here  I don't actually go out of my way to hoard, and I don't collect stuff for the sake of it, but at the same time I'm not going to throw something out that I consider useful, either...

It (i.e. A Field in England) is the new film from Ben Wheatley, director of Kill List and Sightseers.

What's unusual is that it's just been released in the cinema, on TV and on DVD/Blu-ray (and probably on one of those online video-on-demand thingies as well), all at the same time.

Just watched A Good Day to Die Hard the other night. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The whole father/son thing was kinda lame and totally Hollywood, but the action parts (especially the ones with cars in) was surprisingly good.

The Walking Dead was another of my "1.5 episodes" programmes.  It's amazing how American TV can take subject matter like zombies and vampires (True Blood) and make them into boring uneventful soaps.

tru-blood is like a soap, but then then books are a massive cheese fest and whilst they have not followed the books for the TV story line i don't think you can ever claim they are not faithful to the source material.  I have read more Charlaine Harris than I care to admit, i find it a bit embarrasing that 9 stackhouse books in a row seem to jump out from my bookcase

as for walking dead.   the first series is very close to the comics in many ways, which i have read and wished i owned more of.   Its a great series which always surprises.  The only issue is that they have purposely gone further from the comics as they have gone on.   For a fan of the comics I actually think this is great, because i never knew what was happening when i read them, and i can only guess what is happening when i watch it.  When reading the comic you get used to the feeling of all being hunky dory, then the more hunky dory it gets the worse it will be very very soon... its not original, but you never quite know how far they will go.  my major disappointment with recent walking dead is that they are not killing off enough people

I watched another film which is, I think, based on a comic or graphic novel which (as always) I haven't read: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

I was in a semi-delirious, utterly exhausted state last night due to this ridiculously hot weather everyone thinks is so $%&#ing marvellous  :x , but I think I enjoyed it.  It took me a while to get into the style of the film, but I never got bored and liked it more as it went along, which is usually a good thing.

my wife and I can't agree whether its better than the books.  She prefers the film, I prefer the books as there is a bit more character development.

I've not read the books. I do think I would prefer he film though - if only because Mary Elizabeth Winstead looks rather good as Ramona Flowers. Can't decide which hair colour she looks foxiest with though.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Not seen that one yet. I like the scrawny kid that's in it, he's great in Arrested Development.

Watched Dusk till Dawn 2 and 3, 3rd was better by far. They were both enjoyable pulp :D

Righteous Kill and Red Lights, both had great acting from Pacino and Deniro but terrible movies. Could see the really bad plot coming a mile off.

its a fair point, and the only thing The Thing remake remake has over the original The Thing remake
