I'm planning building another mustang body, but using a simple tune-o-matic and a strat neck. Plan to trace and cut with a jigsaw, borrowing a router from a guy at work and using the schools drill presses for all the body holes. Two humbuckers for the win!

Both those look awesome as it is, look foward to seeing them painted up!

For what it's worth, that pink on mine = stain not paint :)

They are not exactly "in the works yet" so I don't know if I should post here, but I've taken the first baby steps towards a custom 7. Maybe a half-twin six aswell, we'll see. I've spoken to Doug at Soulmate guitars for a quote on my specs, and the guys at Graphtech for the best midi/piezo solution, and I've found dealers for all the hardware. Now I just need the bodies, which I may build myself but that does delay the process quite a bit. I'll keep you posted when it goes anywhere.

I got the wrong doug, i know the one from soulmate but i was thinking of the one from parable guitars - he has a laser cutter which he uses for inlay and full cracked mirror tops

Doug at soulmate definately makes good necks and seems to be a good guy but i havnt dealt with him yet since i make my own but he seems decent when i have come across him on forums.  Doug at parable has a nice big laser and does great inlay stuff and has a range of guitars out soon.. i dealt with him and he is a good guy - sent me a load of samples along with the inlays i ordered - i want to do a full fretboard inlay with him at some point.  then obviously there is doug at blackmachine, who i apparently plagarised from

...

any wonder i get confused ;)

I've currently got a couple of bits in the works, an 8 string:

It has got the other half of the neck laminates i used for the fanned-fret 7, but this one isn't fanned this time :)

Got a 4 string neck-through bass that's coming along nicely- flame maple with walnut laminates, and a mahogany body with a paduk cap.

When funds permit, i'll build another fanned-fret, probably a 6 string (but with individual saddles this time), although i'd really like to build an extended range bass..... so many ideas, so little money!!!

Think i need to sell some gear off to fund all these projects! (anyone want a Jackson 7 string? :))

good to see more in the works oli, did we ever warn you this shite was addictive!!!.    I like the singlecut shape you have gone for but no doubt someone will connect it with something that already exists and call you a plagurist ;)  Whtas the bridge, is that a custom made hipshot?? - confused by the lightness of the baseplate.  I like hipshot stuff  a lot and am wondering if i could get them to do a satggerd 8 sring bridge almost like the split conklin bridge shown before

Oli - Try a 6 string FF when you get chance, its really worth it.  I always worry that people see FF/MS as just for extended range guitars when really it makes so much sense  for everything and is just as easy to play in standard tuning if the connecting scales are chosen well,  it can make a standard tuned guitar with normal stringa sound and play better than its ever has before

I kept my first FF for a reason, mostly because it kicks ass but also because i can pass it to any guitarist that walks trough my door and they all say 'yeah, thats easier than i expected or 'that makes so much sense'. i adimt my first only has a slight fan..  but it still adds so much depth to the bass stings having that little extra string length... i am going to say the words HARP or PIANO and leave my FF/MS love where it stands

Haha yea, it is addictive! :)

The singlecut shape took me forever to get right, i just couldn't seem to get it how i'd like, but it's pretty good at the moment, so i'm happy. The bridge is just a regular Hipshot 8 string, the lighter bit in the middle is just a piece of paper that they put under the saddles to stop the baseplate from being scratched by the height adjustment screws.

I've just finished my written assignment for the 1st year of my degree, and I did it on the advantages of fanned-frets :) It's really got me in the mood, especially after i made some sound samples, and with both guitars (my fanned7, and the jackson 7) having a new set of strings, you can really hear the difference! I think something that would be quite cool, would be to build a 'traditional' looking guitar, but combine the classic Fender and Gibson scales- you could even do it in reverse, so you had fender length on the high strings, and Gibson on the bottom.... but obviously the fan would go the other way, but it'd be quite neat to try :)

I think i'm gonna make the fanned 6 with different woods to the idigbo/maple that i've done before, but i'm not sure exactly what yet.

My first FF was only a light fan from 25 on the treble to 26 on the bass.  i wanted to see what the advantages to ff  were for standard scale guitars.  and even in standard tuning it makes sense and feels/sounds better. so clear an piano like you wouldnt believe - and if you are going low you want definition and screams.   Thats why you all need to wait  for the next one to be done so i can show you a down tuned baritone with good tension on each string  that makes you Mofo's scream like you have never before.... even at really low tunings and all in between
