I'm not asking you to get it.  I'm just saying that I do  :D

And cheers Afghan Dave, it's hard to explain why they're good.  They just have that 'comfy' feeling.

My apologies, that was needlessly rude of me  :( , however in retrospect I don't think you'll ever get a new car unless you can keep your GAS under control :)

On the neck, I think they strip the finish but leave it clean so you can add your own dirt, burger grease, nose-pickings etc....

i think thats a bit of a lazy excuse for not getting it right - if thats the reason they might as well make a new guitar and let the customer add there own dents too!!

and to me the bright wood on the neck always ruins the look. and distracts from the authentic relicing which is actually very good on this body

I agree Wez, it's odd that they've left it.  My relic Tele has a load of grime on the neck as if someone's just rebuilt the top end of an E-Type Jag, and then picked up the guitar to play non-stop until their hands are clean!!!!

Yeah, I tend to agree.  Certainly that applies to the maple-necks in the Road Worn series - the clean maple divots on the fretboards look terrible.

I'm with wez on this one... the neck -always- ruins it for me.

I can see the appeal, I've tried some vintage guitars

They were utter shitee

A modern guitar with a vintage look is a much better option...

One thing that I'm not a fan of on this is that it looks like it was burst then sprayed white, I don't like that you can see that burst...

I'm sure that it gives it some 'story' i suppose, that someone at some point had resprayed it.

Another observation, how come he looks like he's holding the most delicate instrument in the world?! it's battered to hell man! hold it properly!

quite a few of the original custom colours where done this way.  sometimes because of a flaw in the sunburst  or just factory resprays to fill a custom order.    Its kinda excepted as a completely authentic trait of custom colour fenders so its good to see then doing it on some relics

I think the white-over-burst finish is the absolute best thing about it!  :D

Relic guitars are like stone-washed denim jeans to me.  They feel nicer than stiff and scratchy dark blue ones  ;)

That's really the best way I've ever heard it put... Nice.

Actually, yeah, that works for me as well...

I have no problem with people wearing them... but I wouldn't be seen dead in them myself :D (or any denim for that matter )

I can't explain why I don't lust after the relics anymore - I did a year or so back, but I've played a few now, and that's kinda settled me into "not that interested at that price".

I'm with gwem though - if the "right one" fell in my hands and was a great player/etc...

But the thing is, all of these relic jobbies are well above my price range - so it would have to be truly stunning for me to put my hand in my pocket. The nearest to my price range that I've seen/touched were the roadworns, and as far as I was concerned, they just weren't £200 better (playability and general mojo, looks, etc) than the Fender Japan thing I chose instead...

And Philly, I must be lucky - I don't give too much of a monkeys about chips and dings. The first one is "Oh!?", I'll grant you - but that's usually in the first day or so

(I can be a bit of an "Yngwie" over guitar handling when it comes to getting the axes out to play/show them off...)

It's still a stunning looking example, though :D

Was it the one in the window, with patches of wear on the top going right down to the wood?

It's quite unusual to see an LP with that kind of wear, it seems more Fenderish than Gibsonish for some reason!
