My personal favourite was some cretin (I think it was an admin; cant find it again now) saying that 'they dont understand that joes song has personal meaning to people'.

yeah, i think that was my favourite part. :lol: of course an insipid cover of an already insipid song about pseudo-inspirational guff will have more personal meaning than a political song written by an overtly political band. :roll:

the tag line thingy on one of the mods avatar is 'may be a member of joes family' or something to that affect, so that says it all really

wouldn't really want imagine by john lennon to be next year's, not a major fan of lennon (or the beatles), and not a major fan of that song. Needs to be a song that's mainstream enough to get people behind it, but which is also a bit subversive. Also would be good if it weren't on sony, or a related label. RATM was perfect apart from being on sony. :lol:

Aye I'm not a massive fan of the song per se, but it'll appeal to a much wider audience than RATM and will easily get double the sales of the x-factor winner.

I'm not wild about the RATM song but I am just overjoyed to have a chart topper that has guitar bass and drums featured so heavily.

Yes it's two fingers up to Simon Cowell (who many of us are tired of) but it is a wake up call  to the music industry , TV stations and the way music is promoted here in the UK.
Music should be more than a reality TV show with only a couple of top executives benefitting from it.
It is actually worse now than the 1980/90s dominance of Stock, Aitkin & Waterman and their endless hit parade

It will inspire a few more kids to pick up a guitar or start playing drums hopefully, and not assume the only route to musical success is via Simon Cowell's programmes - XFactor/ Pop Idol/ BGT/ etc etc

And actually RATM does at least have a bit of attitude
Kind of like this country being overdue for another bout of Punk Rock (and not just the carefully orchestrated variety that Malcolm Maclaren gave us)

yeah, i know, i realise you sometimes have to win however you can. Just my feeling is that, if something at least a bit more obscure than john lennon managed to win this year, it might manage it next year, too. might need to have a couple of expletives, though. :lol:
