Well, we'll see how it plays first.  The break was behind the nut, so it shouldn't play any worse than it did when new.  In theory....

Ha ha... nice one Dave, I think it's going to be great! That wood should shake like Shakira's ass... lovely. Congrats, looking forward to your thoughts and clips. Hope it's the one!  8)

Dave, as you have probably noticed from my previous posts I'm a bit of an expert at renovating 60s SGs and am therefore offering my services - a dab of Araldite and a couple of bolts through the neck joint and slap on a coat or two of Woolworths polyurethane paint ... job done. PDT_005

Nice guitar, I like the look of the black burst around the headstock.

Is £100 a usual kind of pricing for a bound neck re-fret?

£140 give or take £20 seems to be the going rate up North
I would imagine Twinfan knows his local tech pretty well by now and qualifies for a discount.

Looks good Dave :)

I'm really loving SGs, each time I go back to one of my LPs it feels horribly clunky and awkward :o

Well it's arrived, and the neck repairs aren't as bad as they were made out to be  :D

Definitely needs a re-fret, but it looks cool and fells nice and zingy.  Will check it out properly at home later.

I may just have scored a bargain here.....

The body looks to have had some overspray too, but I wouldn't be too worried about that.

Do you think so?  Where?  Given the lacquer checking, it must be a old spray job.

Gibsons from that era are often oversprayed with a clear laquer.

Could be fine, but the finish in the photos looks a bit "shiny" although this could be how the photos have been taken.

If I was buying a "straight" guitar, I would want to blacklight it, be for the money you've paid for it I wouldn't be bother about any overspray.

Nah, I'm not bothered about anything with it.

It looks like the headstock may not have completely snapped off, which is good news.  Hard to see under the black paint though.  The original serial number is just visible, which dates to '62, and the top horn is a 'point' more than a 'chisel', which ties in with the age.

First thing to do is to get it home and whip the control cover plate off.  I'm interested to see what pots/caps are in there.  I need to raise the tailpiece a bit as they're sitting on the back of the bridge.  The tailpiece has been lowered right into the body so it needs raising.

Overall though, it looks like a few tweaks here and there (plus the re-fret) and we're good to go....

Great find. Between that and the Pearly your cup runneth over at the moment. Best way to buy a guitar really, a broken headstock knocks loads off the value, but if properly fixed makes sod all difference to the guitar itself.
