Florence + The Machine

Just spent an utterly crazy week going to three nights of their four night stand at Alexandra Palace. And, amazingly (to me, anyway), I spent all of them down the front jumping up and down, singing along and generally waving my arms about like the twenty year old I used to be a long time ago... I actually feel 20-30 years younger than I did this time last week (I realised this morning, knackered as I am, I'm without back pain for the first time in 4-5 months).

Anyhoo... I'd been listening a lot to the albums over the last few months, but hadn't really managed to figure out whether I thought much of guitarist Rob Ackroyd. I do now, big time. Obviously, Florence herself is the main focal point (WHAT a voice she has), but the band is stunning, and Rob Ackroyd is spot-on in what he does.

A bunch of more modern/bit heavier stuff than I usually listen to :

In Flames
Nightwish
Eisbrecher
Gamma Ray (ok, this is not that heavy)
Rammstein

trying to get some inspiration.

Been playing Helloween´s song Halloween on repeat today. Perhaps my favorite power metal epic. And from the legendary keeper album.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Thats a great song.

I've been listening alot to Walls of Jericho lately.

I find some of that classic Helloween stuff quite drilling, when its too fast and overly uplifting. But overall, I think its great.

For example - Eagle Fly Free.. Absolutely amazing introduction, one of my favourites in metal. But then I find the rest of the song a bit difficult to take, particularly the chorus. Or maybe I'm just not power metal enough ;)

Yes! Love that album!

If you're in a power metal mood, check out Virus by the band Heavenly.
It will not disappoint.

This season it´s good Xmas music. Mostly means Sufjan Stevens. Such amazing arrangements, production, heart, and also songwriting. "Christmas in the Room" is just a stunner.

And sometimes the Bob Dylan Xmas Album. Cause.
