cool violin riff. i hadn't heard that song from them.

i do like Avantasia, but the problem I have with them is that I miss the feeling of an identifiable band dynamic.

Yep, it sounds like what it is: a metal superstar studio project. It's a little hit or miss but overall I really enjoy Avantasiia -- way more than other power metal bands like Rhapsody...

Well, it looks like we've all stopped listening to music this year!

For the last week, I've been listening to Budgie.  I got a little box set that had their three MCA albums, Never Turn Your Back On a Friend, In For The Kill, and Bandolier in it.  There are some great songs in there, although a bit of filler too.  I think In For The Kill probably has the best songs, but the mix is a bit dodgy.  Bandolier sounds much better, but the songs aren't quite as good.  In my opinion, of course :)   Just like Diamondhead, they're a band I discovered through Metallica's covers of Breadfan and Crash Course In Brain Surgery.

This morning, I switched to Clutch, with Earth Rocker.  Loud and aggressive.  This is good

Listened to some Robin Trower today cause my father put it on while I was cooking. Damn that man plays the heck out of his strat. So much Hendrix influence, feel, and detail. Extremely inspiring and Strat GAS fueling.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

The newly remixed version of Ginger Wildheart's Yoni album.

I've always loved the original album, but it's fair to say it's quite shrill sounding, the high end is filling rattling!  So it was quite fatigueing to listen to.  The new mix is much beefier, and therefore easier to listen to.  I do feel, however, that in making the change the album has lost some of it's individuality.  The chunkier guitars are somewhat more generic sounding compared to the percussive, jangly originals.  Still, I'll keep listening.  After a few more listens, and then going back to the first mix to compare, I might have a different opinion.  whichever version, it's still a great album

Took delivery of a whole bunch of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band today - been meaning to buy them on CD for possibly nearly 20 years but never got round to it (I used to have a vinyl best of back in the 80s)

As the missus was out this evening, I managed to listen to the first four albums back to back:

Framed
Next
Impossible Dream
Tomorrow Belongs To Me

Oh wow, they was SO good...

I got Hardwired... To Self Destruct.

It's actually pretty good, although every intro seems to have the same "bang bang bang!" snare pattern before the riffs come in, and it has more autopilot Hammet solos.  I like Kirk, but he hasn't played anything interesting in twenty odd years.  I'd love to hear what Metallica would be like with James Hetfield, Rob Trujillo and a really good drummer and lead guitarist.  All that being said, this album sounds great, much much better than the last two, and the songs seem pretty good, although I've only listened through twice.

At least they're still making new music, points for effort ;)
