I dont like it when its at the top of a mix, but I cant imagine nile or cryptopsy, who write some of my favourite music, without growled, aggressive or otherwise fucked up vocals.

I mean, try and imagine Origin with Rob Halford singing over it  :?  :?  :?

At least it wears their voices out real quick, and then they can't growl anymore. Yay!

Is there no love in your hearts for Sunn O))) then?

From a vocal point of view, I can put up with a bit of cookie monster stuff, but only if you can actually hear the words. Otherwise it's pointless.  Generally though I'd say my favourite style of vocalist is someone like Ronnie James Dio, etc.

Sunn O))) seem pretty bad from the videos on youtube, funniest thing is I read a comment on another one saying "i bet you couldnt play it" .. its basically one or two sustained notes with feedback from what I can tell

The riffs werent bad but the song as a whole was fairly boring to me.. not catchy to me (I've allready forgotten how it goes!)

Carcass are still my favourite death metal (if thats what they're classed as?!) band, loads of great songs by them on Youtube, both good riffage and melodic tasteful soloing (and I even like the vocals):

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=carcass&search=Search

Anyway, this thread isnt even about death metal vocals, its about random annoying noises which people call art or music

i find it awesome! especially the opening riff..... one of my favourites because it is powerful

about the crazy noise music: i thought it was incredibly funny, scaring all of those tourists hahahahhaahhha it has to be a joke!

the bit inside the warehouse really scared me though..... there are these menacing noises inside an old abandoned warehouse....

Anyone heard of John Cage? Lots of very intellectual people raved about it-others thought it was meaninginless random noise. He believed that there was "music" in everyday sound and I am not about to belittle the guy's passionately held beliefs.Interestingly, he also composed a silent work called 4' 33" ( that is "four minutes thirty three seconds") -rather like the opposite of Tom's thread but certainly within topic. To give you an idea of his work, here is a performance of it( no sniggering at the back). I learned of this from reading about Lennon (who of course was into it via Yoko Ono) years ago and was intrigued enough to check it out. I am neither a fan or a non fan I would hasten to add-just trying to get back to Tom's orginal thread.
