Korpiklaani popped up as a recommendation when I put Týr on my Amazon wishlist.

Just added Korpiklaani to the list as well.  :D

(Edit: for a weird moment, I thought that was Udo Dirkschneider driving their bus in the Beer Beer video.  And Huntingsong seems to betray a Wurzels influence!   )

Also Finntroll and Turisas came up - any good?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I only found a few songs by Korpiklaani on limewire, they sound pretty good though, Beer Beer is awesome! Which albums should I get?

Anyone heard of John Cage? Lots of very intellectual people raved about it-others thought it was meaninginless random noise.

Theres also Lou Reeds, "Metal Machine Music", Stockhausens "Helicopter Quartet" or Captain Beefhearts "Trout Mask Replica" for 'difficult' to listen music

In the case of Lou Reed there was some logical reasoning.

However for something truely hideous try anything by George Michael
Goodbye London !

I was thinking about Tankard after watching those Korpiklaani videos yesterday.  Wondered if anyone would mention them!

Haven't heard them for years, but they were OK - the "joke" wore a bit thin after a while though.

and the best thing about Turisas, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Ensiferum, Wintersun and Moonsorrow is that they're all from Finland!
altho I don't really like Turisas or Korpiklaani
and the only thing I like about Ensiferum is their ex-vocalist/guitarist Jari Mäenpää (the mastermind of Wintersun)
Finntroll and Kivimetsän Druidi are kinda weird stuff, they both call them "troll metal" and Finntroll sing in swedish while being from Finland

oh man, can't wait for the 2007 Wintersun album 'Time'!!
(wouldn't call Wintersun either folk or viking metal tho)

but yeah, my fav folk band is Týr
Metal is forever, but I still got the blues for you

Just wondering Kepu...

do they have letters like 'ä' and 'ý' on Finnish keyboards, or do you have to go into Character Map?

Anyone heard of John Cage? Lots of very intellectual people raved about it-others thought it was meaninginless random noise. He believed that there was "music" in everyday sound and I am not about to belittle the guy's passionately held beliefs.Interestingly, he also composed a silent work called 4' 33" ( that is "four minutes thirty three seconds") -rather like the opposite of Tom's thread but certainly within topic. To give you an idea of his work, here is a performance of it( no sniggering at the back). I learned of this from reading about Lennon (who of course was into it via Yoko Ono) years ago and was intrigued enough to check it out. I am neither a fan or a non fan I would hasten to add-just trying to get back to Tom's orginal thread.

Aye John Cage did some really interesting stuff. His piece "Imaginary Landscape" with a pre-defined number of randomly tuned radio's is good fun. Steve Reich is another modern composer well worth looking into. Regardless of what you think of these guy's actual music, the thought they put into it and the ideas they came up with are pretty spectacular.

My favourite piece John Cage worked on was getting volunteers to sit in silence at desks with only a pencil each. They were supposed to clear their minds, and tap the pencil on the desk every time they had a new thought. Joh recorded all these taps and used the rhythm for his music. Entirely randomly generated. Amazing stuff.

for the 'weird' characters we have ä Ä, ö Ö and å Å
for ý I have to use the numpad
