Ill start off with the dorkiest picture so as to ease the tension that no doubt resides here...

I'm a little ashamed to say that its a simple woodstain. I had the body dipped and It went back to a light ash-like colour but it had a strange varnish or resin running round the edges. I sanded it, applied the stain and repeated. Its supposed to look distressed but it mostly looke like fence panel
Still it saves my other babies getting damaged by a flamboyant frontman :D .
I play bass for this band too (Fender Precision) and in the other band, lead ( Strats and Tele)-bass is my main instrument.

I can recommend the BK P-Bass if you haven't already changed to it - or if yours is not a pre-65 Precision. I changed to it in my 66 and it gave me all the sound of my old 62 (which I sold a long time ago!). It has the bottom end thump with clarity in the high end too. It does for the Precision what the Apaches do for the Strat.
Nice shot Steve!
Noodle, that's some serious Ceiling in your shot!
it's a perfect height. i don't care about being 'rock'n'roll' when i play guitar, just comfy :D

I doubt any guitar player would take it as an insult to be likened to Gary Moore. To clarify, it's more the hair and the expression on his face rather than the face itself.

That's very observant of you Indy! You may have the eyes for photography!
The black finger, well that was a story. Back in July 2005 I was helping a band pack up after a gig. There was a girl struggling to get her Hammond organ back in its flight case, so I held the lid open, took the organ in hand (stop it) and the lid slammed down on my middle finger, an aluminium one too and I nearly ended up like Tony Iommi. That was the day that I got my Koch Powertone II, the very same day. Gutted or what! I could only twang with my new Koch, not play with it properly until my finger stopped hurting. Which was two weeks later. The nail finally fell off in September.

the hand pic reminds me of a guy i know who has the ultimate injured hand photo.... he lost his index finger recently 'taking a shortcut' over a wall that happened to have razor wire at the top.
whilst waiting for the ambulance he decided to take a pic with his phone, he has the severed apendage in the palm of his mutilated hand
they couldnt save it in the end but occasionally he gets his phone out to show the picture :?

^ Great photos! Was that camera fixed to something and remotely operated?
I dont have any amusing pictures of me in normal life (fortunately no one I know becomes an amature photographer on nights out!). Just a few geeky ones from around my graduation where me ma went camera-happy. This is one of me, a good mate to the left (also a guitarist) and old my astrophysics prof to the right. The ridicuous dorky smile is a mix of 'thank god thats over' and 'Prof Zilstra is one of the funniest people alive'.

Unlikely mate, probably some hack shooting off randomly and hoping for the best.
Using flash at a gig too... for shame!
(what? im a purist! no freaking flash! F/1.8 or F/1.4! F/1.0 if you can afford it!)

YO. there was actually a big platform with the PA speakers on right there. the person who took that was stood on a raised platform, but they probably did have their hand in the air taking photos and not really framing it. Im guess the flash is there because it is such a wide angle lens that it might need more light than was actually available. im not that sure.
theres some other snaps of that show from the other side of the stage. being at the front with a camera is a bad plan. if you look REALLY close at the middle photo, right at the bottom under the dudes arm is a Boss tuner. yes, everyone ran right across my tuner, wah pedal and noise suppressor. dammit! after that i moved them to the foot of the cabs i was using. which means i didnt look cool while using the wah... as usual... epic fail
Yeah looking at it again its a very wide angle lens so it gave the impression of being higher than it probably was.
I use flash at gigs but only as a fill, it gives some good effects. You still end up shooting at around 1/15 wide open, which with my kit is 2.8.
and, last but not least, me being very true-norwegian-black-metal oriented
11 and 13 years ago. time flies, s**t.

i've got nothing against drummers... :)
Absolutely ; drummers are rare creatures to find when you are putting a band together, it's we guitarists that are 'ten a penny' .... :)
For the record ; the last ( 7 piece ) band I played in relied upon the drummer as a sort of musical arranger / constructive critic. I also feel that whilst one can learn / teach yourself the guitar on a basis of 'more hard work than talent' - the drums seem ( for me ) to be a " you've either got it or you haven't " kind of skill.

English pansies. Winching is another word for 'snogging'. A word I've never actually used before, until now that is.

Congratulations on losing that weight dude!
Unfortunately I think I found it.... so if you ever want it back....
I thought on my part, I'd share my new self - having lost 16Kgs now since April, tataa!
Indeed, when I ran a marathon in 07, I actually gained weight (all the pasta parties after training). It's been really bad on the joints and I only made it through with pain killers, REALLY BAD.
I suggest to support the muscle build and weight loss, do it like me and go to Bikram Yoga, that is in a hot room and I tell you, it's tough, but does you good and there are many nice girls to motivate you, too

Cheers mate - sounds like good advice. I got a nasty football related knee injury a few years ago and every time my weight goes over 13st 7lbs I really struggle with running - it gets to the point where I can't walk up or down the stairs without a lot of pain. I'm not that old either!!

It sounds good, I've tried a bit of yoga in the past and quite liked it (there were lots of women, but most were even older than me :( ).
But I'm not sure my back could take it now - I $%&#ed it up somehow a few years ago and developed the habit of sitting/slumping really badly to stop it hurting. I couldn't do any type of situps anymore because they hurt my back, and now my stomach muscles have totally gone to sh!t. I've got so little strength and flexibility in my "core", it's an absolute joke.

There's one pretty close to me in Balham.
I may check it out, but you know what I'm like, scared of trying new things or going to unfamiliar places....
That's gonna stop around the 3rd posture, by then you'll have some other problems to think about, e.g. to survive the remaining 23
But do try it. Starter weeks are cheap and although it is a real torture, you will feel great after the 90 minutes, really great!

Isn't there a massage parlour just behind you?

I find female company easier - and apparently , me being rather sensitive ( and obviously missing a few bricks ) makes me more aware of 'Women's issues' and perspectives. All "Portals to the Goddess" as it were. Cats, female company and music - what could make life any more sublime ?
I don't have the "When Harry Met Sally" problem at all. Exactly the opposite in fact. :(
That's a very lovely explaination.. They sound very special indeed.
But I've the quite opposite problem than you and Mr Philly Q, I'm beyond shy and have real problem to start a conversation with any human being and it doesn't get easier if it's a woman... :(

Thank you Mark. :)
I regret to inform the house that the two young ladies in question have recently 'gone off the market' so to speak.
It's a shame really , as you would match well with the young lady you took a shine to ; she being the more cerebral and educated - without losing the warmth. She shares another compelling quality ( not surprisingly ) with her Mum ; in that one perceptive look from her mid conversation and " You know that you've been Tango-ed " .
Gosh, they even make me wish I was 20 something, rich and incredibly attractive in whatever way they would find amenable. But in my position, one must think pure thoughts - and 'act my age'. In my case, the richer and more enduring reward of not being so , Is that I instead, hit the strata occupied by their charming Mums ; all afternoon teas and whistfull shared memories. Rather endearingly ; your comments about the younger blonde lady - and Bucketshred's about the 'healthy' looking young lady - would both be met with grateful blushes - and no real assumption ( on their part ) that they are 'popular'.
The only drawback you may both find with our blonde friend, is that she dislikes Metal . PDT_038 Otherwise I readily concur with your forum signature :
" Knowledge of the young Lady's phone number is the most important tool, all others are useless without it "
Meanwhile , feel free to post Tech Death Metal on the 'Geezer's ' thread anytime - and raise the technical standard somewhat. 8)
Cheers ! :D
I think I may have to take your invitation in the jazz thread! If only because I know no music theory, or next to, and would be intrigued as to what jazz-educated ears would make of some of it (which has been jazz influenced). I'm afraid my contribution to the discussion will be useless - whatever parts of my brain understand timing, melody and harmony dont have the words to express themselves. Either I understand it through the sound directly, or I listen to it until I do. I dont have the lexicon to communicate it.
Hey Derek, sorry for hearing about your desiase, hope it's under control now.
Perhaps someday I'll be able to be such a gentleman like yourself. By now I'm kinda brute :?
But I've the quite opposite problem than you and Mr Philly Q, I'm beyond shy and have real problem to start a conversation with any human being and it doesn't get easier if it's a woman... :(
Intelligent, unpretentious, friendly and gorgeous?

Doesnt like metal?!?!?
Forget it then!
j/k its hardly a requisite. I only require that they either dont mind me hammering stupid riffs and musically nonsensical shred out (and playing music along the same lines), or can tolerate it!
You do have a way with words, FF :)
I'm also ridiculously shy around people I don't know and even my good friends some times. It's getting better with the more weight I lose though, the two must be linked somehow
I've generally been okay with chatting to people throughout my life - a few times I have been caught off guard as the attitude I have been met with when trying to start a (polite) conversation has been incredibly rude. Almost a "how dare you even talk to me" look. I find that very difficult to deal with being a very down to earth sort of person who has no real enemies (that I know of). Coincidentally all of the people that have given that sort of response have been very attractive.
I enjoyed reading your story Derek - a good lesson in life there.

As an aside, I often find this interesting. I absolutely could not be in a relationship with someone who's music taste run much the same way as my own, I'm at two or three gigs most weeks, I spend a huge amount of time in the house recording, I'm at a bunch of extreme metal festivals a year, most of my spare time is taken up organising another two festivals and I generally listen to music 99% of time I'm at home.
If they couldn't hack horrible noise, they likely just couldn't be around me for any length of time

Cheers Tom !
( And thank you Ian & Paddy ) :)
If it is of any re-assurance Tom, my own ( more meaningful ) progress in that field was seemingly linked to me gaining a lot of medication weight. It did surprise me, and I concluded that :
When we are what we think is going to be more physically attractive, which can include ( but is not limited to ) being thinner / more 'buff' / wearing contact lenses / being 'gifted' or otherwise in the under pant department. e.t.c we are simply giving ourselves more permissions, more validity with which to sally forth into the act of courtship : we are giving ourselves some illusory ' Higher pass grade' with which to better seek amorous employment.
That the 'quality' women / sensible chaps, find a person who is relatively comfortable with whatever they are - the more attractive. Stephen Fry , Brian Blessed and Michael Palin still getting more sustained attention - than whichever 'Mr Big-sexy' has just won some rather vacuous talent show. As the Taoists say - " Embrace the un-carved block ".
Further to which, thinking of previous jobs I had : In the first example, the young woman all the men wished they had 'nabbed' first - was a 'plain' looking girl, who was cheerfully down to earth - and quite beyond bothering about the dictates of fashion.
In my last job, the man voted ' the secret fancy' of the ladies, was a 40ish and somewhat avuncular chap with a large tummy - and complete lack of guile.
Don't worry, It only took me 48 years to ' Take heed' of this lesson .
To not 'bust a gut' beyond a healthy and enjoyable 'hobby' of merely optimising one's self without needing to alter the intrinic nature of one's self ( As this is Tom I'm chatting with, not some loathsome example of the indigenous 'Pond life' ).
That being already assumed ; I feel that to deny and forcibly alter your genetics and inherent nature ( an uphill and rather illusory quest in itself ) - often lifts you into the field of the less desirable and potentially shallow , needlessly demanding ladies.
When manic ( and then blending that in an interesting souffle of teenage angst - and mid life crisis ) I must have been one of the best dressed, facially moisturised, predatory pain in the ar*es that had ever seen light of day. I remember one young Lady with whom I had a longer term romantic liaison , saying in candour :
" I think I prefer you depressed".
Weight loss, fitness - and the saner aspects of the 'Metro-sexual' lifestyle, only best explored in the knowledge that it can often have a knock on effect of making you potentially much healthier in middle age and beyond , thus giving you more time on this planet with your loved ones. However, when we ( and I speak as the previously dammed  ) lose our 'core' - we switch off the very magnet we would like to attract the 'goodies' of this life with. Bosses you would want to work for like a 'straight up' chap, and women (of the type that you would love to eventually Marry) need to know that you are in their 'Club' or orbit too.
Just a thought . ( or 20 )
I didn't say it was a recent picture... 8)

It does do the job very well but it tastes absolutely horrid. Really syrupy and sweet yet disgusting. It also contains more caffeine than red bull etc I think.
Here is an old one of mine, I think it's '89 or '90ish
