My favourite scary movie is A Tale of Two Sisters, too.

Brilliant film!  :D  I wish it was available on a decent quality Blu-ray.

Check out A Bittersweet Life if you haven't seen it already.

Sadly, I haven't, because I buy most/all of my movies, and it's kinda hard to find in Denmark (I usually buy my movies from the UK). But I actually do have A Tale of Two Sisters in blu-ray, and I think the quality is pretty good? Not like Iron Man-good, but it needs some of that gritty retro look

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - Really liked this a lot, especially the performances and the pacing. It has a slow relentless build up of tension which worked really well for me. It reminded me of Wages of Fear in that regard. Excellent performances and the period detailing was great. Gary Oldman did seem to lapse into a bit of an Alec Guinness impersonation at times which I found a bit distracting, almost as if he'd watched the 80s TV version of TTSS and copied some of Guinness's modes of speech. Still, a top film.

Drive - I liked a lot about this film. It's a really good story and both leads are great: their characters felt very real and fleshed out. The photography and soundtrack were knockout good. I felt it lost its way a bit in the second half. There are some very generic gangsters and too much reliance on shock graphic displays of violence which you didn't need to see really. Still, all that considered, I thought it was a damn sight better than a lot of movies out there is worth catching in a cinema.

Surprised that Drive is actually good - the trailers that are shown on tv here make it look like a really rubbish cheesy action film.

Definitely not that. It ain't perfect but it's certainly not any sort of action film. More of a suspense, thriller, gangster type film.

Any film directed by Nicolas Winding Refn is well worth watching.

But Drive is his first American film, and the first he hasn't written himself, so I'm treating it with some caution....

Just finished watching The Killing.

Really liked it, but was frustrated by the ending.  Roll on S2!

Actually, it reminded me a lot of The Wire.

I've never heard of this - what channel is it on?
I think I hate being indecisive.

The original Danish version was on BBC 4, the American remake was on ITV1

C4, i thought. I gave up on the remake about 1.5 episodes in. Horrible. The danish version was absolutely awesome.

Can't comment on Danish version - but I did really like the US version.  Quite dark.

I'd imagine the Danes did it darker though!

Haven't seen the USA remake, but I'm Danish, so I saw the original/some of it. Would y'all like to know who the killer is? ;)

Anyways, this weekend I saw:
The Evil Dead
The Evil Dead II
Army of Darkness (aka The Evil Dead III)

OMG OMG OMG I FINALLY FOUND THEM ON BLU RAY! :O
The Evil Dead movies are not only some of the greatest horror movies of all time, they are also some of the most influential.

Here's my opinions:
The Evil Dead
Wow, had seriously forgotten how dark and scary this movie was. Perhaps the best mood/setting/ambience ever!
Some really haunting pictures (Ash dragging his insane, laughing, possesed girlfriend into the woods).
I didn't think it was possible, but MUCH better than I remembered it!

The Evil Dead II
Not as dark, not as scary, twice as awesome and four times the badass.
Ash is back. With one-liners. We're talking about a man who chops off his own hand and installs a chainsaw instead.
That's, like, ultimate baddas. I've always thought this one was the best. It's kinda fun, too. Really, this is the perfect blend of horror and comedy. I have no idead how Raimi had the ability to make this both funny AND scary, but I've never seen anything like this before.
Still some haunting images. Like when he looks into the mirror and says "I'm fine" and the mirror image answers him "I don't think so. We just chopped our girlfriend up with a chainsaw. Does that sound fine to you?"

Army of Darkness
It's not scary at all, I can tell you that, and it's VERY different from the other movies, but somehow manages to keep some of the spirit of the previous two movies. Oh, and it's one of the most awesome things ever. One-liners like "this is my boomstick," "groovy" or "hail to the king, baby" will haunt you for all eternity.

Overall, one of the greatest movie series ever. And unlike Friday the 13th or Halloween or stuff like that, this series just kept on being good. God bless Raimi's horror-skills!
