Haven't seen the USA remake, but I'm Danish, so I saw the original/some of it. Would y'all like to know who the killer is? ;)
Anyways, this weekend I saw:
The Evil Dead
The Evil Dead II
Army of Darkness (aka The Evil Dead III)
OMG OMG OMG I FINALLY FOUND THEM ON BLU RAY! :O
The Evil Dead movies are not only some of the greatest horror movies of all time, they are also some of the most influential.
Here's my opinions:
The Evil Dead
Wow, had seriously forgotten how dark and scary this movie was. Perhaps the best mood/setting/ambience ever!
Some really haunting pictures (Ash dragging his insane, laughing, possesed girlfriend into the woods).
I didn't think it was possible, but MUCH better than I remembered it!
The Evil Dead II
Not as dark, not as scary, twice as awesome and four times the badass.
Ash is back. With one-liners. We're talking about a man who chops off his own hand and installs a chainsaw instead.
That's, like, ultimate baddas. I've always thought this one was the best. It's kinda fun, too. Really, this is the perfect blend of horror and comedy. I have no idead how Raimi had the ability to make this both funny AND scary, but I've never seen anything like this before.
Still some haunting images. Like when he looks into the mirror and says "I'm fine" and the mirror image answers him "I don't think so. We just chopped our girlfriend up with a chainsaw. Does that sound fine to you?"
Army of Darkness
It's not scary at all, I can tell you that, and it's VERY different from the other movies, but somehow manages to keep some of the spirit of the previous two movies. Oh, and it's one of the most awesome things ever. One-liners like "this is my boomstick," "groovy" or "hail to the king, baby" will haunt you for all eternity.
Overall, one of the greatest movie series ever. And unlike Friday the 13th or Halloween or stuff like that, this series just kept on being good. God bless Raimi's horror-skills!
